影响因子This volume is comprised of the majority of lecture presentations and a few select posters presented at the International Workshop, "Basal Ganglia and Thalamus in Health and Movement Disorders," held in Moscow, Russia, on May 29-31, 2000. The International Committee responsible for organizing this workshop included Alexander Konovalov, Director, Burdenko Institute of Neurosurgery of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, Mahlon DeLong, Chair, Department of Neurology, Emory University, Atlanta, USA, Alim Louis Benabid, Chief, Neurosurgery Service, University of Joseph Fourrier, Grenoble, France, and the two undersigned. The workshop was conceived out of a desire to provide a forum for discussions of both basal ganglia-and motor thalamus-related issues by bringing together basic scientists and clinicians representing different disciplines, research directions, and philosophies. The primary goals were to encourage an exchange of information and ideas in an informal environment, to stimulate integration of the data from different disciplines, and to identifY controversial issues and the most essential questions to be addressed in future research.

Efferent Connections of the Human Striatum and Pallidum: A Nauta Degeneration Studynal degeneration resulting from lesions confined to the striatum and pallidum provides additional significant information on the pallidofugal pathways in man, especially on those from the external segment, which may have particular relevance in the physiopathology of movement disorders.

Cognitive Aspects of the Motor Function of the Striatumy responses of the striatal neurons mainly if they are directed toward the point in the visual field at which the animal expects to see a previously demonstrated target (Hikosaka et al., 1989). Many investigators believe that variation of the conditions under which a movement’s related activity appe

Chemical Anatomy and Synaptic Connectivity of the Globus Pallidus and Subthalamic Nucleus monkeys showing that the STN activity is increased after dopamine depletion led to the development of novel surgical therapies aimed at silencing STN outflow to basal ganglia output nuclei (.; .). Such therapies are currently used worldwide as efficient treatment for Parkinson’s disease in humans (
