Mobilization of Chromosomes and Nonconjugative Plasmids by Cointegrative Mechanisms,e plasmids transfer themselves. Furthermore, in many cases they can also transfer (mobilize) chromosomal DNA or nonconjugative plasmids. Thus, mobilization, as we define it, is the process by which a conjugative plasmid accomplishes the transfer of DNA that is not self-transmissible.
