Axonal Transport of Glycoproteins in Regenerating Nerve, been linked to a number of intracellular processes. Most prominent among these are subcellular routing (Fitting and Kabat, 1982; Rome ., 1979), secretion (Sidman, 1981), transmembrane transport (Olden .., 1979), and control of susceptability to proteolysis (Kalish .., 1979; Milenkovic and Johnson, 1980) [for review see Olden .. (1982)].

Calcium-Activated Protease and the Regulation of the Axonal Cytoskeleton,r transformation into neurites as well as the subsequent maintenance of established neuritic processes. Similar interactions of cytoskeletal components are probably also rcponsible for the regeneration of cell processes that occurs following injury to the axonal extension of the cell.

Book 1984 "The Role of Axonal Transport in Neuronal Growth and Regenera tion" held in Tallahassee, Florida in March, 1983, sponsored by the Psycho biology Research Center of the Florida State University. It is our hope that many of the perceptions and insights expressed in these chapters resulted from our interactions.

Franz Büchner,Ekkehard Grundmanne of the retrograde transport of these exogenous molecules remains to be determined, but it is widely believed that the sampling of the axonal environment provided to the cell body by this process has informational significance.
