Scanning Tunneling Microscopy Studies of Fullerene C60te (“frozen state” — no movement or rotation), direct imaging of C. with atomic resolution was possible, showing pentagon and hexagon carbon rings of C.. A high voltage STM pulse of C. appears to have created a defect resulting in C. which can dimerize to C.. C. has potential utility as a molecular switching device.
