Cementomaia is definitely a reactive process, whereas cementoma is thought to be a true neoplasm, and cementifying fibroma and gigantiform cementoma are probably also tumorlike lesions. This led the WHO, in 1971, to establish the following categories for lesions of this group (cf. Pindborg and Kramer 1971):
