Remarks on the Law of Successionof succession. Much of the work on this problem assumes a multinomial distribution for the observations. In this paper assumptions are made which imply a non-multinomial distribution, which in turn implies a rather different approach to that used in the multinomial case to estimating probabilities of novel events.
