A Modified Genetic Algorithm for the Beam Angle Optimization Problem in Intensity-Modulated Radiothebeam angles are selected using GA, and the intensity maps of the corresponding beams are optimized using a conjugate gradient (CG) method. The comparisons of the preliminary optimization results on a clinical prostate case show that the proposed optimization algorithm can slightly or heavily improve the computation efficiency.

On the other hand, the new pruning procedure in general leads to the discovery of classification rules that are considerably shorter, and so simpler (more easily interpretable by the users) than the rules discovered by the original Ant-Miner.

A Cooperative Multilevel Tabu Search Algorithm for the Covering Design Problemeration among levels tends to regroup good approximate solutions into small search spaces. Tabu search has been quite effective at finding re-combinations of blocks in small search spaces which provide successful search directions in larger search spaces.

The Importance of Scalability When Comparing Dynamic Weighted Aggregation and Pareto Front Techniqueee-objective problems. We hypothesize that the DWAGA’s archive helps keep the searching population size down since it does not have to both search and store the Pareto front simultaneously, thus improving both the computation time and the quality of the front.

Population Structure and Artificial Evolutionlations in a variety of trees and mesh-structured graphs and observe differences in rates of change of average fitness and percent polymorphism over successive generations. Results indicate that populations embedded in sparse random graphs having relatively low diameter yield results similar to those embedded in complete graphs.

Mechanical Behaviour and Propertieses in the distribution of sizes, allowing size control during evolution. Two different methods for size control based on MHC are presented and tested on a symbolic regression problem. Results show that an accurate control of the size is possible while improving performances of MHC.
