影响因子Birds are an integral part of most freshwater ecosystems(lakes, rivers, wetlands) but their role in the trophic dynamics ofthese water bodies has often been overlooked. As a conspicuous part ofthe biota of water bodies, aquatic birds are indicators of theirtrophic state both in terms of species composition (quality) as wellas occupancy and breeding (quantity). Birds may also influence thetrophic state of a water body by importing nutrients (.e.g. residentor migrating birds feeding on adjacent watersheds or the sea). Becauseof anthropogenic activities, predation or their mobility, birds maynot utilize otherwise suitable aquatic habitat. These factorscomplicate the relationship between aquatic bird production and thetrophic status of habitats. As a consequence, the role of aquaticbirds in freshwater ecosystems has usually been ignored. .This volume contains a wide range of papers selected from thosepresented at the symposium and reviewed. .

Fish-eating bird abundance in oligotrophic lakes in Kejimkujik National Park, Nova Scotia, Canadathe same period (about 200 and 130 kg fish respectively) and the estimated fish production in these lakes, there is a close balance between the size of water body and its fish production to the occupancy and production of piscivorous birds.

Although individual species may be affected, community level responses of waterfowl to acidity are either absent or hard to detect at our sites.

Responses of breeding duck populations to changes in food supplyuctive success. Moulting numbers of male Tufted Duck were related to chironomid abundance, but not those of Scaup and Barrow’s Goldeneye. Moulting numbers were not associated with previous reproductive output.
