Nonlinear Analysis of Membranes,you are going to discuss fabric structures you need access to a membrane finite element. The plane stress/strain element which follows is probably the most simple finite element which can be discussed. Since the functional dependence of the element upon the node coordinates is so simple, it is an easy matter to apply perturbation methods to it.

This in turn raises the question of how shape is to be determined which in turn returns to the question of the application of some methods of nonlinear analysis. But no new analysis topics are introduced in this chapter.
