Through the integration of severalrecentlydeveloped compiler construction techniques, such asdata flow analysis, and a novel and space efficient demanddriven or lazy evaluation approach tocode generation, theauthor has been able to produce a true compiler forthelanguage while still maintaining the felxibility and easethat arethe hallmarks of APL.

Compiling for a Vector Machine, and has met with only limited success. A second approach is to develop new programming languages with explicit parallel instructions. The acceptance of new languages is slow, however, and this has the drawback of producing yet another programming language that is available on only a limited number of machines in a limited number of locations.
