Jong Hyun Kim,Jung Min Han,Sunghoon Kimng functions involve hypergeometric functions. This extension contains other distributions appearing in the literature as particular cases. Various methods of estimating the parameters are investigated and their asymptotic efficiency relative to maximum likelihood estimators compared.

Known results on estimating parameters of the laws are summarized and some new Monte Carlo results involving estimation by using sample characteristic functions is reported. The growing controversy regarding the application of these laws in the field of Finance is examined in terms of the most recent evidence.

The class (es) to which each belongs is found to determine the kinds of models giving rise to it. Urn, contagion, stochastic and STER process models are considered together with conditionally, weighting and mixing models.
