Words from Proper Names,rd is a proper name or not. Eric Partridge’s . (Secker and Warburg, 1949) has an appendix of 165 pages of border-line words which are sometimes regarded as proper names, sometimes as common nouns. The use of an initial capital is an unreliable guide.
