That is no longer so today, but prior to this relatively recent shift in opinion, any catastrophist hypothesis was seen as weird or naive. Still, a few brave souls swam against the tide and in doing so paved the way for the broader understanding of natural processes that we hold today.

Weird Theories of a Weird Universe,on is exactly matched by the negative charge of the electron. This is a good assumption, but it is, nevertheless, still an assumption. There is no intuitive a priori reason for thinking that the charges must be exactly equal.
