Similarities Between Wavelets and FractalsWavelets and fractals have application and property areas that are similar. We discuss these areas of similarities in this chapter. The key types of wavelet transforms are covered. In addition, we discuss the fractal dimension idea and the iterative function system code in this chapter.

Fundamental Concepts,transforms have areas of similarities. The discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and the fast Fourier transform (FFT) have very interesting dissimilarities in the sense that individual wavelet functions are localized in space while the Fourier sine and cosine functions are not.

Waveletsative of a Gaussian function like the Mexican hat wavelet. These different wavelets are classified as orthogonal, orthonormal, compactly supported, continuous, and discrete type wavelets. We describe about 18 different types of these wavelets including their best possible application areas in this chapter.
