Weather satellites,veland Abbe is usually cited as the first modern weather observer, initiating a network of weather stations linked by telegraph in 1869. The success of this initiative led to the creation of the national weather service in 1870. Run by the US Army Signal Corps, Cleveland Abbe was appointed its chief scientist.

Military imaging satellites: long-range intelligence,ike “censored areas in Google Earth”. One famous blurred area during the Administration of President George W. Bush was the home of Vice President Cheney at the US Naval Observatory in Washington, DC. As described in Chapter 1, once the Obama Administration took office, the blurring was removed.
