Limitations of Systolic Time Intervals for Evaluation of Cardiac Function,Systolic time intervals (STI) are influenced by several anthropometric, hemodynamic, and pharmacologic factors which can limit the usefulness of STI for the evaluation of cardiac function in individual patients. The hemodynamic factors are largely unknown in individual patients. To appropriately use STI the following facts should be kept in mind.

An Instrument for the On-line Determination of Systolic Time Intervals,In this chapter an instrument developed in our laboratory for the measurement and evaluation of systolic time intervals (STI) is described. STI are measured from selected signal complexes of the electrocardiogram (ECG), heart sound, and the carotid pulse wave by methods attributed to Weissler (1).
