Recent 21CM Surveys of the Southern Milky Way and the Distribution of HI Beyond the Solar Circlelayer. The total mass of HI in the Galaxy is found to be 4.8 × 109 M...Time will not permit an overall review of the large-scale structure of atomic hydrogen. Also, the results of the other recent study (by Kulkarni, Blitz, and Heiles) are being discussed separately. This paper will therefore concentrate on the recent work of the Maryland group.

The Massachusetts — Stony Brook CO Survey of the Galactic Planeurvey, a two year project to be complete by mid-1983, will provide a map of the entire first quadrant at 3 arc minute spacing, increasing our previous sample by nearly an order of magnitude and allowing an unprecedented view of individual molecular clouds throughout the disk on all size scales between a few parsecs and many kiloparsecs.

Molecular Clouds in the Outer Milky Way Galaxy kinetic temperature in the outer galaxy clouds, and that this had to be taken into account in mass estimates of molecular material in the galaxy. It was estimated that the mass of H. in the outer galaxy is ~ 1/3 that in the inner galaxy.
