In this review, we concentrate on epidemiological studies that have investigated the relation of vitamin C to disease risk because it is the most direct approach to quantifying the role of vitamin C in the pathogenesis of chronic diseases in humans.

The latter “extrascorbutic” stage opens a broad new range of interests regarding vitamin C and human health, as compared to the limited scope of the vitaminx’s antiscorbutic role.
