Teaching the tricks of the trade,them as you apply them in lectures and as your teaching assistants apply them in software laboratories. And if they do learn these tricks, both your students and their employers will be grateful to you.

Software engineering in the Johns Hopkins university continuing professional programs, to non-matriculating professionals in a two to five full-day format. This paper describes the program, details the offerings, provides measures of the size and impact of the software engineering effort, and makes some general observations about the teaching of software engineering to practicing professionals.

This body of material incorporates both practical guidelines to interface design, and discussion of a major theoretical issue in interface design. The material is described in some detail, and observations about its usefulness are included.
