Magnetic properties of titanomagnetites and titanomaghemites, mined by the species of atoms or ions which make up the material, and their interaction with one another in the crystalline environment. Models for the magnetization process (Chapters 4 to 6), i.e. the effect of an applied field, rely on non-intrinsic microstructure, linked to material properties. C

Magnetic properties of other mineral systems, role as a remanence carrier, from the body of available data is problematical. It seems that microstructure and extrinsic influences affect more than just the magnetization process parameters in the case of haematite. One problem is that ideal haematite has only a weak magnetization, about 0.5 perc

Applications of rock and mineral magnetism, hysical models of rock and mineral magnetism, and the extent to which rock and mineral magnetism research has provided experimental support for the models. The models essentially concern the acquisition and removal of weak field remanences, and form the physical basis for determinations of the direc

Introduction to the magnetism of rocks,he mineral world had anticipated him by several thousand million years. One wonders if Poulsen’s experiments could have been inspired by the discovery of the magnetic recording properties of rocks only a few years before his patent was registered.

The magnetization process, ation in response to the presence or absence of a magnetic field, in response to rising or falling temperature and behaves, magnetically, in general. It is the free surface which results in a magnetized body producing a magnetic field and thus allows rocks to contribute to anomalies in the geomagnetic field.

Book 1984sics, together with advances in technology, have radically transformed the way in which the Earth, and especially its crust, is described. The study of the magnetism of the rocks of the Earth‘s crust has played a major part in this transformation. Rocks, or more specifically their constituent magnet
