Regeneration and Regulation in the Developing Central Nervous System,e elimination of certain of its afferent inputs, there has been a veritable flood of papers dealing with various aspects of the phenomenon which has come to be known as “neuromorphological plasticity.” Since much of this work has been reviewed in a number of recent publications,. we need not conside

Book 1982 completely the basis of the complexity of the fully formed structures. The nervous system has long been particularly in triguing for such studies, because of the early recognition of a multitude of distinctly differentiated states exhibited by nerve cells with different morphologies. Anatomical st

Cell Death in Neuronal Development,e target tissue prior to the period of cell death causes nearly all of the neurons to die subsequently, while transplantation of additional tissue to the embryo to serve as a potential target for the neurons permits more neurons to survive through the normal die-off period.

Origins of the Nervous System in Amphibians, ytoplasm and how much the embryo’s own genome contributes to its development are central themes of books by Wilson. and Davidson.. These books, written 90 years apart, show how little progress had been made in thattime in understanding the control of development of morphological patterns.

Monoclonal Antibodies to Embryonic Neurons, ors, hormones).; and (3) the cell surfaces of other neuronal and nonneuronal cells with which a developing neuron comes in contact.. The cell surface of the target tissue or material associated with it such as the basal lamina probably serves to trigger the formation of the synapse. and, at least in amphibians,. its specific regeneration.

Pioneer Fibers,ll that can be said today about the pathways of insect peripheral pioneer fibers, as will become apparent in what follows. But first some other relevant properties of growing neurons deserve attention in a historical perspective.
