Glutamate and Glutamine,rporation of carbon or nitrogen from a variety of precursors in these amino acids is fast and extensive, indicating a rapid turnover of these compounds. The conversion of glutamate to glutamine is thought to be important for the detoxification of ammonia in the brain.
