In recent years the technique has almost always referred to the use of noble gases and certain other gases such as N., CH., SF. as matrix materials and hence it is essential to work at very low temperatures.

Non-Traditional Matrix Isolation: AdductsRecently we have searched for a technique which would allow the matrix isolation of molecules for Raman studies at room temperatures. Our previous far infrared research (WGF) utilized adamantane matricies for room temperature study. The adamantane matrix works very well for our far infrared studies but was not successful in our Raman studies, (1).
