The Semi-Markov Process as a General Sedimentation Model,on the theory of random walk. The resulting bed thickness is either exponentially or Gamma distributed. Gamma distributions seem to fit observed bed- thickness better than the lognormal distribution. The semi-Markov process may result in exponential or polymodal bed thickness distributions. Examples of both have been generated by simulation.

Mathematical Search Procedures in Facies Modeling in Sedimentary Rocks,inciples are illustrated in a facies study of Pennsylvanian carbonate rocks (from southeastern Utah) in which principal component analysis, Euclidean distance function, standardization, and weighted and unweighted pair-group methods, are among the classificatory schemes employed in facies construction.

Conditional Simulation of Sedimentary Cycles in Three Dimensions, are determined. To do this a maximum likelihood method is used. The most probable shape of lenses between boreholes for each group of contemporary lenses is determined. In this manner the problem is thus solved. The results are given as a set of thickness maps for successive groups of lenses and as cross sections.
