The book starts with an introduction to the basic thermodynamics and electrochemistry principles and techniques in fuel cells. It subsequently discusses fuel cell operation principles, electrocatalysts, electrode materials, cell and system configuration and technologies in low-temperature fuel cells such as alkaline fuel cells and proton exchange membrane fuel cells, and in high-temperature fuel cells including solid oxide and molten carbonate fuel cells. Other energy conversion and storage technologies such as supercapacitors, batteries and electrolysis are also covered. A special chapter on laboratory experiments with fuel cells is also included, which can be conducted in conjunction with classroom teaching. Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cells: Performance and Operationement. An example is given to illustrate the effect of operational parameters on the design and construction of fuel cell stacks. Examples of stack and system calculation based on the operating points are given and durability issues are briefly discussed at the end of this Chapter.

Solid Oxide Fuel Cells: Techniques and Characterizationf the reference electrodes, equipotential line and polarization evaluation of electrode and electrolyte reactions will be discussed. The most common electrochemical techniques used in SOFCs such as electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and galvanostatic current interruption will be introduced.

Fuels for Fuel Cellsrocesses is first introduced and hydrogen storage techniques are reviewed. Other hydrogen carrying fuels like hydrocarbon and alcohols are also addressed. The electrochemistry, catalysis, catalyst materials as well as environmental issues are discussed.
