Embedded Clusters: Problems but ProgressWe describe current problems and progress in the study of dense clusters of young stars embedded in the molecular clouds from which they recently formed.

Low-Luminosity Members of the R Coronae Australis Infrared ClusterPreliminary analysis is presented for J, H, and K′ images of the Corona Australis cloud core. Color-color and color-magnitude diagrams reveal relatively few new cluster members. We conclude that the R Cr A infrared cluster consists of only about 30 members and its size reflects the available reservoir of molecular gas.

A New Wide-Field Infrared Survey Using Iris on the AATWe have completed observations for a new wide-field infrared survey. The survey covers a total area of 0.8 square degrees to a 5. limiting magnitude of ~ 17.5 at K′ (2.1 .m) and ~ 18.5 at H (1.6 .m). We present preliininary results from this survey, including galaxy colours and luminosities.

Artillery Shells in OrionNear-infrared imaging of the Orion Molecular Cloud has revealed that an explosive event occurred in its core within the past 1000 years, ejecting at least a score of dense knots of gas at several 100 km/s.

Photodissociation Regions in Young PNInfrared imaging of H2 and PAH emission in NGG 7027 and BD+30 3639 reveals the presence of photodissociation regions in the neutral gas surrounding these young planetary nebulae.

Spectra of a Remarkable Class of Hot Stars in the Galactic CenterTwo-micron spectra of several helium line stars in the galactic center have been obtained at UKIRT with CGS4. Lines studied include He I 2.058.m, He I 2.113.m, Br.2.166.m, and Pa.1.875.m. He/H in four of the stars is shown to be very overabundant.
