The Genesis of ‘God’ of God could not even be derived from sense-experience by the processes of empirical thought. Whence then is it derived, and how do people come to a point where they feel justified in asserting the existence of such a being?

Not Proventure of being. Both argue that, since the nature of being is what it is, certain things which undoubtedly exist could not exist if it were not that God exists also. Are we compelled to embrace this conclusion?

Faith and Commitmentcally grounded factual knowledge, can we be sure that that is what it is trying to be? Can we be sure that it is not succeeding in being something else instead? But then what is it that theology tries to be, and perhaps succeeds in being?

The Divided Mind of ,out God and the soul are matters not of knowledge, but of faith. This did not mean that people had lost their confidence in theism or in Christianity. Faith, though it was not knowledge, was a perfectly respectable and reliable state of mind. This view of the matter became accepted and was later a component in the doctrines of the Reformation.
