Finitarily Splitting Skew Products,he compact group G, and H is an S-invariant closed subgroup. By taking a measurable cross section to the quotient map G → G/H, the transformation S can be regarded as a skew product of the quotient automorphism S. with the restriction S. of S to H. We can study S by studying the simpler components,

Disjointness of Measure-Preserving Transformations, Minimal Self-Joinings and Category,a given ergodic transformation is a dense G.. The class of transformations T such that the family {T.: i ϵ ℤ} is disjoint is also a dense G.. As a corollary there exists an uncountable family {T.: α ϵ A} of weakly-mixing transformations such that the family . is disjoint.

Singularities in Classical Mechanical Systems,a singularity we mean a point or set of points where the system is undefined, as in the case of a collision between two or more of the particles in the n-body problem. Such singularities often lead to a complicated global orbit structure. Not only do certain solutions tend to run off the phase space

A Characterization of Those Processes Finitarily Isomorphic to a Bernoulli Shift, opology. The topology which will most interest us here is that, on a countable state stochastic process, generated by the cylinder sets, i.e., if the outputs of the system are the symbols R., R., ..., we can view the underlying probability space as {R., ...}. with its product topology.

Biotechnologische EnergieumwandlungS. and S., and how they are joined in a skew product. This method was used in proving that ergodic automorphisms of compact groups are measure theoretically isomorphic to Bernoulli shifts [3]. Crucial to this method is the result that if S. is ergodic, then the skew product S measure theoretically splits into the direct product S. × S..

Singularities in Classical Mechanical Systems, this erratic behavior. And power series or other analytic techniques often yield only a very local description of solutions near the singularity, one which gives no hint of the global complexity of the system.
