https://doi.org/10.1007/978-3-658-00822-2heterogeneous character of organic matter and proves the presence of coal and charcoal particles of fossil origin in the majority of the samples. The heterogeneity of the organic matter is found responsible for variations in the sorption behaviour of organic pollutants like polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in soils and sediments.
