Early Experimental Studies of Meaningation constructed was ‘Dakshin Gangotri’ (DG) and later a permanent station ‘Maitri’ was constructed on ice-free hills named as ‘Schirmacher Hills’. In this chapter, various construction aspects of the Indian station has been discussed. The first expedition to Antarctica was led by Dr. S. Z. Qasim, an eminent Oceanographer.

Establishing Dakshin Gangotri and Maitri station in Antarctica is a creditable achievement of Indian Expeditions.
