Resonance Frequency for Pipes Open at One EndIn effect, a stopped pipe is open at the mouth end and stopped at the other. Its resonance frequency has a wavelength that is nominally one-fourth the length of the pipe. Figure 13 shows the relation between the length of the pipe and its resonance frequency.

Diffraction of Sound by a Cylinder, a Cube, and a Spheretive pressure level are given for a number of angles of incidence. The plots show the level of the pressure that exists at the front surface. Thus, they give a good indication of the nominal response of a microphone of the same shape.
