描述This book compiles for the first time the development of echinoderm research in Latin America. The book contains 17 chapters, one introductory, 15 country chapters, and a final biogeographic analysis. It compiles all the investigations published in international and local journals, reports, theses and other gray literature. Each chapter is composed of 7 sections: introduction describes the marine environments, and main oceanographic characteristics, followed by a history of research account divided by specific subjects. The next section addresses patterns of distribution and diversity. A specific section would explain fishery or aquaculture activities. The next sections deal with environmental and anthropogenic threats that are affecting echinoderm, and any conservation or management action. Finally, a section with conclusions, needs and new lines of research. The book will include two appendixes with species lists of all echinoderms with bathimetric data, habitat and distribution.

The Echinoderms of Mexico: Biodiversity, Distribution and Current State of Knowledge,z in 1841. Currently, 643 species of echinoderms are known from Mexico, with Class Ophiuroidea the richest (197 species); Class Asteroidea follows with 185 species, then Class Echinoidea with 119 species, Class Holothuroidea with 113 species, and Class Crinoidea with 29 species. The Mexican deep sea

Central America Echinoderms: Diversity, Ecology and Future Perspectives,f a rich geological history that has caused the exchange and isolation of fauna and flora. The richness of ecosystems and coastal morphologies allow the presence of various groups of organisms, and among them are the echinoderms. Investigation of echinoderms in the region goes back to 1867 when the

With the exception of crinoids, diversity of echinoderms in Panama is greater in the Pacific (270 species) than in the Caribbean (154 species). This contrasts to other invertebrate groups (e.g. corals, sponges and bryozoans), where

Echinoderms of Colombia, fic Ocean, home to many marine ecosystems, which in many cases have not been investigated. As expected, the Caribbean and Pacific coasts of Colombia exhibit different geological, oceanographic, climatic, and social characteristics. This in turn gives rise to major differences in their biota, as well

Echinoderm from Brazil: Historical Research and the Current State of Biodiversity Knowledge,nd oceanographic features of the Brazilian coast is highlighted. Several aspects of taxonomy, distribution, reproduction, development, immunology, physiology and ecology of echinoderms found in both shallow and deep Brazilian waters are compiled and analyzed to show the current state of knowledge.
