An important model that supports many contemporary approaches to "flexible" or "process" assessment was offered by Vygotsky in the 1920s. Over the past two decades there has been a growing interest in the ideas of Vygotsky (1956, 1978, 1981). The major reason for this interest in Vygotsky’s work in the West may be related to his contribution toward understanding of the social origins of cognitive processes and the conceptual foundation of dynamic/ interactive assessment.
