描述The idea of this conference grew out of the rapidly increas­ ing volume of experimental facts. and theoretical concepts related to the problem of crystal-field effects in metals and alloys. The crystal field plays an important role in the understanding of the energetic level structure of ions in condensed matter. In partic­ ular, the magnetic properties of rare earth metals and alloys are strongly influenced by the crystal field. In the phenomenological theory the crystal field successfully describes the static and dynamic magnetic properties of these systems. On the other hand the microscopic origin of the crystal field in metals is not yet fully understood. However, recent years have seen some of the areas of crystal-field effects mature to the point that they should be summarized and brought to the active notice of a larger audience. In addition, a number of exciting developments have occured which deserve attention. This book contains 13 invited and 45 contributed papers pres­ ented at the 2nd international conference on crystal-field effects in metals and alloys held at ZUrich, Switzerland, September 1-4, 1976. Neutron Crystal-Field Spectroscopy in PrSn3 the paramagnetic molecular field parameter λ.=(1.8±0.3)×10. Oe./erg. The crystalfield parameters are consistent with susceptibility and zero-field magnetization data. The anomalous temperature dependence of the crystal-field transition line widths is interpreted in terms of spin-electron relaxation effects.

EPR of Gd3+ in Lu and Sc Single Crystalsor the axial crystal field parameter D = 3B.: . and the isothermal g-factors: . Sc:Gd is strongly bottlenecked, leading to an anormal angular dependence of the resonance field, which is explained in terms of available theories.

Critical Behaviour of the Magnetization in TbSb and Tb0.6Y0.4Sbansition in TbSb should be of first order, since the Hamiltonian shows no stable fixed point within the ε-expansion. In pure TbSb we find the critical exponent β = 0.20±0.01 in the region 4×10. < (T.-T)/T.<2×10.. In Tb.Y.Sb the exponent is significantly different, we find a sharp transition with β = 0.37±0.05.

Design strategies for VLSI logic,tric; consequently the two modes are strongly mixed at long wavelengths and the low frequency response may be expressed in Debye form with a relaxation time that diverges at T.. Results are in agreement with dynamic susceptibility theories of Buyers and Lines.
