Organization of the S I Cortex,s are coincident with cytoarchitectonic areas 3b and 1. These two cutaneous representations have striking differences in internal topography, and in proportional representation of different skin surfaces.

Book 1981 exceeds a dozen. Although the number is less for the somatic and auditory systems, these also are more numerous than they were earlier and are likely to increase still further since we may expect each system to have essentially the same number of areas related to it.

The Somatic Sensory Cortex,y organized somatic sensory cortex (Sm I) of Old and New World simians from the simpler forms, the ancestral prosimians. Contemporary prosimians are the living descendents of the earliest group of primates and are believed to have separated from a common mammalian ancestor over 70 million years ago

The Postcentral Somatosensory Cortex,ed in 1937 (7) and then more completely in 1942 (21). These investigators documented important features of the overall organization of the postcentral parietal cortex in . by recording evoked potentials from the surface of the brain. The basic procedure was to determine the portion of the body surfa

Organization of the S I Cortex, ally, “SI” has been described as a single and at least largely continuous representation of the body surface spanning four distinct architectonic regions, areas 3a, 3b, 1 and 2, in a number of New World and Old World species of primates (1, 2, 4, 5, 8, 14, 27–31, 36-42). However, these new studies (

Spatial Organization of the Primate Precentral Cortex,es were undertaken to examine the detailed motor and sensory organizations for the control of the forelimb. The techniques of single unit recordings in behaving primates after Evarts (6), and intracortical microstimulation (ICMS) of Asanuma and Sakata (5) were used. In these studies, we observed tha
