Statics,In Chapter 1 we did not discuss physics. Instead, we discussed the framework into which physics seems to fit in a most appropriate way. The beginnings of what we now call physics can be easily traced back to the Greeks, although they were not interested in the erratic and “unnatural” behavior of matter in motion. Their interest was in statics.

Statistical Mechanics,One of the important uses of the theory of atoms (or the combination of atoms called molecules) was to explain the phenomena of heat by the motion of the molecules. The point is that the motion of molecules need not be followed in detail. Statistics suffice. Hence the name “statistical mechanics.”

The Uncertainty Principle,When we discussed the wave-particle dualism, we saw that particles and waves behave in the same manner to a surprising extent. But, of course, they still are completely different.
