Order and disorder in the nuclear shell model,imit at high excitation energy. This information entropy has a temperature associated with it which is nearly identical to the temperature obtained from the level density and from the Fermi distribution function for the single-particle occupancies. The interrelation between quantum chaos, Fermi liquid theory and thermalization is discussed.

Shell model for large systems and quantum monte carlo diagonalization method,toration of symmetries such as angular momentum and isospin. Consequently the level structure of low-lying states can be studied with realistic interactions. After testing this method on .Mg, we present first results for energy levels and E2 properties of .Ge, indicating its large and γ-soft deformation.
