Supplying primates for researchpment of the Black River Ranges. Most of this area consists of degraded thickets and more open savannah with, at higher altitudes, areas of remaining native forest heavily degraded by Chinese guava (.).

Subsistence use of wildlifet. Exactly when human beings became effective hunters of big game, as well as catchers of small creatures, is a separate question but game was to become especially important for man because early humans (probably including the Neanderthals) were able to make use of the skins for clothing.

Conservation and use of wildlife in the modern worldg forest habitats of India are constantly subjected to a virtual scouring by livestock and people in search of ‘minor forest produce’ (Dang 1991; Panwar 1992). The situation is similar in some other parts of Asia and in parts of Africa.
