描述.This new edition will grow to three volumes and significantly expand existing sections on medical management of children with cerebral palsy, research, education and therapies.  The first volume will cover the cause of CP, the underlying pathology in the brain and the secondary pathologies in different tissues, such as muscle and bone. There are a fair number of controversies and new techniques, such as PET scans, that are getter attention to make earlier diagnosis. It is still not clear whether early diagnosis makes a long term difference.  Epidemiology will also be discussed...The second volume will focus on general medical concerns related to CP on each of the medical specialties and the musculoskeletal section - which served as the main focus of the previous edition.  This volume will be updated with an emphasis on gait disorders, spasticity, seizures and movement disorders.  New research and techniques on the hip and spine areas will be added as well...The third and final volume will be an expanded and comprehensive resource on therapies.  More detail on the latest outcome research and techniques will be provided along with sections on orthotics and novel treatments and techn

Genetic Abnormalities and Congenital Malformations as a Cause of Cerebral Palsycontribute to disease. Several studies have examined how a known risk factor along with a genetic predisposition may lead to cerebral palsy. Others have studied how single-gene changes and deletions or duplications of genetic material are likely involved in the pathogenesis of disease. Finding a gen

Infectious Etiologies of Cerebral Palsyiated risk factor, but both preterm and term infants can be affected. Injury to the brain causing CP can be the result of both direct and secondary pathogenesis from infectious etiologies. Direct infection of the central nervous system, damaging immune-mediated inflammatory response to maternal or c

Perinatal Stroke as an Etiology of Cerebral Palsy, several studies had suggested thrombophilia as an etiology for perinatal stroke. However, as new evidence accumulates, we know that perinatal stroke is due to multifactorial etiologies. Multiple fetal and maternal risk factors can contribute to a thrombophilic microenvironment: infections, trauma,

Problems During Delivery as an Etiology of Cerebral Palsy in Full-Term Infantsonatal mortality have decreased, but the overall prevalence of CP has remained stable. Sentinel events during the prepartum, intrapartum, and neonatal periods and their relationship to CP are complex and not completely understood. This chapter will present risk factors that occur specifically during

Postnatal Causes of Cerebral Palsynderlying clinical presentations and etiologies are widely varied. CP is known to be a manifestation of intrauterine pathologies, intrapartum complications, and injury or illness in the postnatal period. This chapter will focus on the postnatal causes. While there is no strict consensus on exact age

Risk Factors for Developing Cerebral Palsye of cerebral palsy may result from specific etiologies such as congenital anomalies/maldevelopments or from acquired brain injury during the prenatal, perinatal, or postnatal periods, due to brain ischemia/asphyxia, trauma, hemorrhage, infection, or stroke. When the specific etiology cannot be accu
