Marvell and Sisson at the Intersection of Times,C. H. Sisson applied the smell test to four lines out of Andrew Marvell and recoiled in disgust. The offending stanza finds Marvell praising (or, as Sisson imagined, affecting to praise) the lately victorious Oliver Cromwell.
