ENTe researchers were unable to produce a precise cut. An experimental laser wavelength produced by American Optical became the next focus of interest. This was a gas laser using carbon dioxide. The carbon dioxide (CO.) laser was found to allow precise injury to the canine vocal cord. This opened the door to clinical use of the CO. laser [6,27].
