Preliminaries (Building Blocks)From the pion production rates n./A. and the pion charge ratios . and ., measured in p + A and A + A reactions, it is concluded that the mass of the Δ(1232) resonance is reduced in nuclear matter. This conclusion is supported by the Δ(1232) mass distribution extracted from correlated (p,π.) pairs and the π. transverse momentum distributions.
