The period-colour relations differ in different metallicity environments. Although the same may be true of period-luminosity relations, current evidence is inconclusive on this point.

Imaging of Local Group Bulge Populations in the Near Infrarednumbers of long period Miras, which should in principle be younger objects. There is likely to be a wide range in the ages of bulge populations; we point out the case of M33 where there is almost certainly a large age range in the populations of the central 100 pc.
