Position: Marcel Mauss and Pierre Bourdieu on Gift, Interest, and the Mobilisation of Actors, social structures. But they did not agree on the relation. Bourdieu’s relation is a given fact which freezes equal actors in rivalry. Mauss’ relation is a cycle embedding various activities which contribute to changing the social positions of actors within social hierarchies.
