Models with Lattice-free Center-based Cells Interacting with Continuum Environment Variablesh something represented as a continuum variable. Dictyostelium discoideum is the first system modeled by the method. The cells move and communicate with each other through a diffusible chemical. In the second system, scar tissue formation, the cells interact with the extracellular matrix which is represented as a continuous vector field.
