Studies of Synoptic and Mesoscale Atmospheric Features from Satellites and mesoscale convective complexes - as well as providing a unique source of their ‘climatology’. AVHRR images have formed the basis of a method to estimate ocean to air heat fluxes during cold air outbreaks, and severe thunderstorms can be analysed and predicted by using rapid scan images.

Sensors to Record Atmospheric and Terrestrial Information: Principles of Collection and Analysisg of atmospheric and terrestrial features will be considered. We shall consider both scanning and staring sensing devices.
