Spectroscopic Analysis of Engineered Surfaces, Interfaces and Thin Layers,a of Materials Characterization , a book which appeared recently. The fundamentals of surface and thin layers analysis are well described in a book by Feldman and Mayer . Necessarily, in this contribution only a modest selection of methods can be treated. Plasma and Discharge Physics for Materials Processing, thin film substrates. In addition, we will also discuss how this same plasma processing technology is finding use in novel applications such as implantation of large area structural elements , fabrication of ultra-pure, ultra-fine particles and micro-machining of mechanical elements .
