The Proper Treatment of Mass Terms in English,The basic problem is to determine what concrete mass nouns denote and how one is to give truth conditions for sentences containing them. I ignore for the most part ‘abstract mass nouns’ and ‘mass adjectives’, but see below.etidronate 发表于 2025-3-27 10:46:45

Ensembles and the Formal Semantic Properties of Mass Terms,The purpose of this paper is to present an analysis of the formal semantic properties of mass terns. What is meant by formal semantic properties will be explained in section 2; in the present section a characterization in syntactic terms is given of the phenomena that go by the name of mass terms.平淡而无味 发表于 2025-3-27 21:49:18
Predication and Matter,This paper is divided into four sections. First, I will pose what may be called the metaphysical problem of matter. Then, 1 will describe a related problem: the logico-linguistic problem of mass terms. Third, I will outline the standard solutions to these problems. Fourth, I will suggest a new solution.granite 发表于 2025-3-27 22:02:33

Afterthoughts on Mass Terms, esented, as well as various alternative theories. I have little to say about many of the issues that have been raised (e.g., ‘how’ mass terms ‘divide their reference’), but I will here comment briefly on four issues that are particularly relevant to the theory proposed in MT & AT.
