Themes and Issues,n she invokes the ‘spirits That tend on mortal thoughts’ (I.v.39–49). But no familiars appear — one might say that she doesn’t need any — and the spot is a blemish on her mind, not her body. Malcolm may be justified in calling her ‘fiend-like’ (V.ix.35), but not even Malcolm says that she is a fiend.
