The energy of one laser photon is about 1 eV, whereas the energy required to fission a uranium nucleus amounts to 10 million electronvolts. How can that be?

Nuclear Physics with Laser Compton γ-Raysering have characteristics of monochromaticity, energy tunability, and high polarization. These photon beams are used in photo-nuclear experiments by nuclear resonance fluorescence (γ, γ′) and photo-disintegration (γ, .) reactions. Recent experimental results and future plans are presented.
